January 17, 2014
Dear Pierce Families:
Our Character Education theme this year is “It Starts with Me!” The Character Education Committee and Diversity Committee would like you to think about what that means and how does that statement reflect your families character. Globally Martin Luther King Jr. demonstrated these actions by leading the Civil Rights Acts Movement. Locally we must first make the choice to be kind to others or to help someone in need, then you can act on that choice to make a difference in the world. During this assignment you will have an opportunity to explore with your family the ways you make a difference. Think about things you do, or have done, to help make a positive impact on the world. Examples include; helping others in need, helping the environment, recycling, etc.
Please complete the following steps:
1. Reflect upon and celebrate your family!
2. Talk about things you do or have done that make a positive impact on others or on the world.
3. Help your child choose something to share at school that they have done to make a positive impact on others or on the world.
4. Help your child express that event or action on the document located on the next page.
5. Return your Family Projects by February 28th.
Sincerely,
The Pierce Character Education Committee
The Pierce Diversity Committee
FYI: Additional Copies of these forms are available on the Pierce Blog: http://blogs.birmingham.k12.mi.us/pierce/. They are located on the right side under the blogroll.
